1.  Ndamakuong Suh should be the number 1 pick in the 2010 NFL draft.  The ability to control the middle is being lost with rush ends and the 3-4.  Pressure up the middle against the run and pass is still the most effective start to an NFL defense.  QB's can step up to avoid the rush on the outside, but there is no substitute for having a C/G pushed back into his lap.

The Dallas Cowboys have pulled off their first playoff win in years.  Tony Romo is now 1-2 in the playoffs, and Wade Phillips finally has won one himself.  Phillips and Romo had been known as "choke artists" in the past years, Romo fumbling a kicker hold against the Seattle Seahawks and throwing an interception late against the New York Giants.

I was a decent 3-1 last week. Called the Games straight Up and where to take the points. My only lost was the Upset special. Which seems not so special for week 1. The Colts help on for the win, Yet like I said did not cover the spread. The Saints went marching in to the season with 6 touchdowns from Brees. The Dolphins seem to let me down in more then one way, I actual  sipped the Ronnie Brown Kool aid and left a sour taste in fantasy for week 1.

Unless you've managed to live amongst wolves for the past two years you undoubtedly know about Michael Vick's dog fighting ring. Although, an average American cannot return to his or her job after being imprisoned; Michael Vick can and he will, because he is a professional football player.

Well, the first wave of free agency has passed, and the Browns didn't jump in. It appears to me that the Browns don't have a lot of room under the cap to sign high-priced free agents.

Leaving: Kellen Winslow, Joe Jurevicius, Jason Wright, Audra Davis. Is Braylon Edwards next? Next year is a contract year, and it appears that Braylon doesn't want to sign with the Browns again. So, why keep him around when we could get something for him this year? I know...we don't have a lot of quality WRs on the roster. But, if we rely on Braylon's potential, we might as well trade him for draft picks. And if I remember correctly, Braylon couldn't even catch a cold last season. Is Donte Stallworth leaving? After his accident, no one knows his future. Lastly, many experts believe that one of the QBs will be traded. Well, stay tuned.

It's been a tough year being a Seattle Seahawks fan, and a Seattle sports fan in general.  We lose the Supersonics to Oklahoma City, the Mariners become the first team to have a $100M payroll and post 100 losses, and the Seahawks miss the playoffs for the first time in 5 years.  But there is still a lot to look forward to.  We have a new MLS team in Seattle FC that looks like it could be competitive from day 1, and the Mariners and Seahawks are not far from being playoff calibur teams.

So I was 4 points off in my prediction last week as the Cardinals clinched the NFC West and with it a playoff birth. With the red birds in they’ll be looking for a favorable match up during wild card weekend, as it is unlikely the Giants will be dethroned as conference champions and one member of the South will undoubtedly take slot 2. The rest of the race is completely up in the air. Arizona can help shape their destiny today going against Minnesota, who is narrowly holding down a playoff spot in the NFC North.  The Cardinals looked poised to take the number three spot and judging by the strength of their remaining schedule they can as long as they topple the Vikings. With a difficult game against New England next week Arizona should have an easier going week 17 against the Seahawks.

I don't like this match-up. This isn't paranoia carried over from last week's comeback win over a bad Seattle Seahawks team. Oakland is about as bad as the Seahawks. This Patriots-Raiders game has me very concerned because the Raiders can run the ball.

The game flashed before my eyes on Sunday when Seattle quarterback Seneca Wallace ran by Patriots rookie CB Jonathan Wilhite. It shouldn't had happened. The 2008 NFL is one of the better ones in my memory. Certainly better than last year, and probably the best since 2001. The stories of bad teams rising to the occasion, a star quarterback coming back to play and another one missing the year, a backup who hasn't started since high school on his way to making millions via free agency, coaches being fired at a record pace, and a couple quarterbacks on their way to 5000 yards passing are just some of the stories to the NFL season. There seems to be another story that could be in the making when the season comes to a close. Currently there are 5 NFL teams with 2 wins or fewer and with just 5 games left in the season there is the possibility that a 5 teams could finish 2-14 or worse. The reason for the futility is a lot of things, bad play, injuries, or just plain bad. Here are the 5 best of the worst in the NFL and what the last part of the season could hold.

The Seahawks are 2-8, if my memory serves me correctly and ever since they were 2-4 I've heard rumblings about how Seahawks fans should root for the Seahawks to lose the rest of their games and obtain a high draft pick.  I consider this notion in the same realm as Holmgren should resign and Hasslebeck should be cut, but since its grown exceedingly popular.  I have decided to address it.

Here is a definition of what a Flea-Flicker or Trick Play is all about.

One team will lead the defensive players on the opposing team to think they are playing a normal running play, this will cause the opposing team to leave their position and go after the running back, this leaves the quarterback to have the space to pass the football off.

The running game: Last years problem, this years question. Can the Hawks regain the running prowess after cutting Shaun Alexander? Lets start with the halfbacks.

1. Julius Jones: Jones is just the type of runner that Alexander was not. Jones runs hard and is not afraid to take people head on. Problem with him is, that he is best used as a tandem back. Good News! The Seahawks have that tandem. Expect Julius to get 45% of the carries.

1. Matt Hasselbeck: Finally becoming a household name around the NFL, Hasselbeck had his best statistical season last year. He ranked 8th in the NFL in passing yards (3,996) and 6th in TD's (28). On an even better note, he had more then twice as many TD passes as INT's.

If Tavaris Jackson ever really learned how to play quarterback, I would find the Vikings absolutely terrifying. Granted I wonder about their team speed, especially in their linebacking corps, but they are a tremendously solid football team put together perfectly to defeat the Seahawks. Power running football teams gives the Seahawks fits and the Vikings are just that. Even if Jackson learned how to manage a game, do I consider them a Super Bowl caliber team? Probably not, but I wouldn't put it past them to roll into Seattle in the playoffs and punish the Seahawks into submission. Their offensive line is huge, their d line even bigger, their corners are big and physical and their receivers, although lacking in skill have good size. If you look at every team that beat the Seahawks, and I'm not taking about games the Seahawks blew, games where they got beat, their opponent has most of those components.  Teams that could physically beat up the Seahawks concern me more than a team like Dallas, who you can punch in the mouth a few times and they will fold like a cheap lawn chair, the Seahawks can beat them on coaching and prowess, but the Vikings, they could just flat out beat them.

The Cardinals finished last season .500. It wasn’t playoff worthy nor was it very impressive. The fact is the Cardinals play in a bad division where the only team that should make the playoffs from it every year is the Seattle Seahawks. However, the Cardinals actually have a lot of talent on their team, it’s a shame that it couldn’t translate to victories last season. The Cardinals have improved their team via the draft with quite possibly my favorite rookie players, with the exception of Glen Dorsey and Darren McFadden. The Seattle Seahawks ended last season with a 10-6 record and a loss in the second round of the playoffs to the Green Bay Packers. There were good aspects of the team and of course there were bad aspects of the team. Losing fullback Mack Strong to injury and eventually retirement hurt this team a lot. He paved a lot of holes for running backs in Seattle. Star running back Shaun Alexander seemed to lose his game last season, he just never seemed to do something great. We’ll get back to the running game a little bit later on, but lets us first see what we can expect this year.

After a heartbreaking loss in the first round playoff game of the 2006 - 2007 season to the Seattle Seahawks the Dallas Cowboys were determined to make the 2007 -2008 season a better one. However with the departure of Offensive Co-Ordinator Sean Payton and the hiring of Jason Garrett some might wonder if the cowboys improve or falter, then came the resignation of Bill Parcels and the hiring of Wade Phillips. the 2007 season got off to a great 5-0 start which lead many to believe that was going to be the year that the cowboys would win the superbowl. The cowboys finished out the season 13-3 first in the NFC east and a first round bye in the playoffs it looked as though Dallas would just coast through the playoffs but yeat tragedy struck again in the form of another first round playoff defeat. The 2008 season will hopefully bring more excitment and a hopefully a return to the superbowl key additions Zack Thomas, Adam Jones and new starting runing back Marion Barber who replaces Julius Jones the only question remains now is weather sure handed reciever Terry Glenn will remain a cowboy Glenn and team owner Jerry Jones have been in negotiations Gleen who is entering his 13th season has expressed interest in finishing out his carreer as a cowboy. However if the cowboys choose not to go with Terry Glenn Patrick Clayton and Sam Hurd are capable of being the other starter more so Crayton because he had more starts, Hopefully Genn will remain with the cowboys him along with the key additions acquired in the off season should propel the cowboys past the first round of the playoffs and into this seasons superbowl.

Lofa changed his original plea of not guilty to guilty in Monday's court appearance for his May 10 DUI arrest. He will pay fines of $1,255 and spend a day in jail.

He handled this incident to the best of his ability, and because he cooperated and accepted responsibility for what he did, I think it shows even more good character traits about the guy. This is my first post so I just want to get this out there.  See what people think the over/under on Seahawk wins will be this year and the Huskies as well.  I am excited about both teams and in analyzing both schedules as you can see below.  I have put wins and losses primarily based on whether we would be favored if the game was played today as well as my own opinion, would love to hear what people think, which games they think I will be wrong on.  I was surprised to see I have them going 12-4 and feel I was relatively unbiased.  If someone knows of a site that has lines on every game of the year already(if that is even possible) I would bet they would be at or close to 12 wins simply using that barometer.  I will do the same prediction list as below for the Huskies on a seperate post.

1. Seattle/Washington legislature are all idiots
If you are a Washington resident, I implore you to not re-elect our Governor (Christine Gregoire). If you live in Seattle, we need a new city council and Mayor. These people had a chance to keep the team here, twice! Yet, nothing was done. We need change if we are to ever get basketball back here again.

According to espn.com, the Seahawks have the lowest personal foul totals in the NFL since 2001. Read the blurb on this here, posted by good ol' Mike Sando.

It seems Ruskell's decision-making about recruiting solid citizens on AND off the field has paid off, especially with Jerramy Shithead out of the picture. Hell, I'd be willing to place a substantial bet on the possibility that at least 41 of those fouls since 2001 were because of that lumbering jackass. He was a worthless acquisition, and apparently caused his neighbors in Bellevue just as much grief as he caused the team.

"With leading receiver Bobby Engram still a no-show in hopes of getting a contract extension and starting flanker Deion Branch still recovering from reconstructive knee surgery, the Seahawks passing game is in the hands of Nate Burleson and a foursome that has become known as "the young guys" -- Payne and recent late-round draft choices Ben Obomanu (2006) and Courtney Taylor and Jordan Kent (2007)."

The Seahawks defense is based on speed. Blazing, swarming, hard hitting speed. Running wide on this defense is liking wandering, unguided into Dante's Hell. But fast defenses lack size, and against the run their margin for error decreases drastically. Size on the defensive line makes up for a lot of deficiencies. If your linebackers have trouble shedding blocks, two space eaters in the middle will take up blockers and prevent linemen from reaching the second level. With the smallish defense line that the Seahawks have, if Bernard or Terrell or Mebane do not fulfill their assignment, the offensive line moves quickly to Tatupu, Hill and Peterson and within a milisecond the running back has reached our veteran and speed challenged safeties.

I spent my younger years as a Seahawks fan in the 1990's. I sat through 2-14, I sat through the back to back 6-10 seasons, and I sat through the teams of the late 90's who could never fathom being anything other than mediocre. Winning wasn't expected, losing was. I remember always thinking how great it would be to cheer for a perennial playoff team, winning the Super Bowl was secondary. Just to taste the playoffs, taste the respect and prestige of those playoff teams, is all I wanted. Now a decade later the Seahawks are the four time defending champions of the NFC West. They have made five consecutive playoff appearances and haven't been knocked out in the first round since 2004. They have won playoff games, they have won a conference title and they have played in the Super Bowl. I am not satisfied. The ultimate goal of any professional franchise should be to win the championship. Any other result is nothing but a failure to achieve the goal.

Seattle joined the Patrick Kerney sweepstakes in the offseason just after Super Bowl XLI. They were not getting the requested productivity from then starting defensive ends Grant Wistrom and Bryce Fisher. Wistrom finished that season with only 4 sacks and Fisher accumulated just 4 sacks as well. In the next 3 months, the Seahawks searched vigorously for a player who could step in and explode off the edge. The 'Hawks found the man they were destined to sign and he was a physically gifted 6-5 270 lb. pass rusher named Patrick Kerney. Kerney signed a 6 year, $39.5 million contract and he recorded 14.5 sacks in his first season. Ever since the Seahawks signed Kerney, the NFL has really taken a more in depth look at pass rushing defensive ends instead of run stopping defensive ends. Jared Allen was the top choice before Kerney of all the 2007 free agents but he resigned with the Chiefs but was ironically traded before the 2008 NFL draft to Minnesota. The 2008 NFL draft saw four defensive ends go in the 1st round but only 1 of those (drafted by our Seattle Seahawks) specialized in stopping the run instead of assaulting the passer. The first three chosen were all substantial pass rushers and that is becoming the new trend in the NFL. Understand that there are still talented run stoppers out there but the majority of NFL teams are building around a defensive end that can effect the quarterback's success of completing a pass.

I must say I'm rather confused when I read the surprising amount of anti-Ruskell sentiment that seems to be popular opinion from many 'hawk fans this offseason.

It’s easier to notice all this in the offseason, of course, when there aren’t any games happening to distract the masses from the red tape and the politics of the sport. Personally, I just think a lot of the bitching has to do with the fact that we’re all suffering from Acute Football Withdrawal Syndrome right now. Hell, it’s March, and all the fuss is about baseball season, which is currently five minutes away from officially beginning in our fair city of Seattle as I’m typing this.

I was watching SportsCenter recently, and the Seahawks were "On the Clock" as the NFL Draft rapidly approaches. Interestingly, the commentators spent more time talking about how the players

It's only a matter of time now before the Seattle Seahawks release Shaun Alexander, and only the veteran running back himself seems to be surprised.
Seattle's pair of backfield acquisitions have made Alexander expendable. The Seahawks appear to be heading toward a two-back system featuring the bruising T.J. Duckett and the shifty Julius Jones, brought in from Detroit and Dallas, respectively, to revive a running game that was a putrid 20th in the National Football League last season. Maurice Morris might be retained as a back-up to Duckett and Jones -- his 2008 cap number in somewhere around $1 million -- but Alexander seems the likely man on the outside looking in.

So the Seahawks are finally addressing their running back situation.

As much as I love Shaun Alexander for what he has done for the Seahawks and Mo Morris for filling in and helping out, I know they are not that effective anymore.

Okay, okay, I admit, I am also fans of the Seahawks seeing as how I live in Washington. So when word comes that we have signed Julius Jones from Dallas, I leapt with joy. You see, Alexander is getting

Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, it doesn't, it just sort of stays the same.

Julius Jones has signed with the Hawks giving them a running corps of five backs I could care less about. I thought Duckett (a clone of Leonard Weaver) was a waste of time and money, but this move really takes the cake.

Who cares?

TJ Duckett is a worthless signing if there ever was one. What exactly are the Seahawks planning on doing with him? Maybe he plays on the o-line? We could use a few good hoggies (and it would probably take a few to replace Hutch!).

I've always had a soft spot in my heart for Seattle kickers. I think it was because one of them was from my home town and my buddy used to run around with the guy's old ID (I'm not quite sure how exactly he got it) so he could drink (il)legally.

The Seattle Seahawks offseason has been anything but spectacular.  The signing of Mike Wahle, an old veteran guard recently released by the Panthers, is the highlight of the Hawks offseason.  Wahle is one of Holmgren’s guys from his days in Green Bay so he believes he will get the same out of him in Holmgren’s last year as head coach.

The Seahawks need a seam-splitting, pass-catching TE so Matt Hasselbeck can truly take advantage of the full range of mismatches the west coast system offers. After the Jerramy Stevens my-arms-are-too-long-to-catch-footballs-and-I-am-a-headcase bust, and the Marcus Pollard I-have-low-miles-but-they-left-me-in-the-garage-for-a-reason failure, their options are free agency, the draft, or... bust.

With all that’s going on in Washington this week with the steroids hearings, it’s no wonder the Redskins got second billing when they announced Jim Zorn as their new head coach.   This isn’t really what the Redskins are about of course, and if Daniel Snyder had his way, even a presidential assassination would take to the back pages behind what’s going on at Redskin Park.   But Zorn’s quiet press conference, which already is best remembered for his flubbing the team’s colors, is proving more and more that Dan Snyder has become the incarnate of Al Davis with a larger bank account.   It’s also an indication of how much owners are willing to gamble…or

Welp this is it, the last football weekend before the endless hype of the Super Bowl. Personally I find the conference championships to be much more enjoyable to watch than the actually Super Bowl. They are played at a team's homefield, in front of their fans, often in difficult weather conditions. The Super Bowl on the other hand is more like an exhibition game. It's a neutral site, usually in a dome and the real fans of the teams playing are most often stuck up in the 300s. Sure, the Super Bowl gets all the glory, but the conference championships are for the real fans. And, as it's been for most of this decade, the AFC Championship has been the real Super Bowl anyway. On to my picks...

The Seattle Seahawks have, in my opinion, solidified there season run to the championship with a great win against the Washington Redskins.  The Redskins had played on pure emotion from the time their teammate died and it finally caught up to them.

It's the best time of year and, for those who lose, the worst time of year. For fans lucky enough to have a bye this weekend it will be one of the most enjoyable, relaxing weekends of the football season. No pressure. Just sit back and watch to see who you'll be playing. My personal recommendation is make something in the crock pot (like Jambalaya). It will simmer all day and be ready just about the time the games are starting. Some random thoughts on the games and my Pats-biased picks..
