Seattle Seahawks

30 July 2009

The Seattle Seahawks under former Falcons coach Jim Mora Jr could use a high caliber back-up QB. With an aging Matt Hasselbeck and a flighty Seneca Wallace backing him up, Vick could be #2 on the depth chart for a season, appearing in a couple game situations or in case of injury and then start him next year. I wonder if Mora and Roger Goodell talked about Vick at all on their hike up Mt. Rainier.

The debut of the Crypt Keeper was not a success. Two consecutive 2-2 records in the past two weeks (tongue twister yikes) keeps the overall record at .500 for the season. No worries though, I know success is on its way as the Crypt Keeper and I will go back to the drawing board to chalk up better predictions and analysis. With that said, let's see what happened in Week 9 of the NFL.

he Dallas Cowboys.

Winners - New York Giants

3) Philadelphia Eagles @ Seattle Seahawks

Fans in Philly are loving things as of late as their fighting Phils won the World Series this past week. Closer Brad Lidge went 48/48 in saves I believe as he wins a ring with his teammates. Basically asking Houston "tell me how that --bleep--taste!". I had to...Anyways on to this game. The Eagles won last week over the Atlanta Falcons at home while the Seahawks dominated the 49ers in San Fran. This is another big game for the Eagles in the NFC East. I just don't have that much confidence in Seattle at the moment even with the beating they put on the 49ers in Mike Singletary's debut as 49er's head coach. I'm picking safe here with the Eagles.

Wednesday Blast!

Somewhere the Tuna is smiling…

Hello Blast fans,

It’s that time again, time to do some blasting and we got some great stuff from Frisco, KC and everywhere else. Now since there are an extremely large amount of blasts with a number of unsavory words. I take it upon myself to replace them and still keep the original statements intact.

It has been some time since I have recorded my thoughts on this blog, and for now, I am back.  You may be wondering why?  What inspired me to come back to my computer and do this again.  There are a couple of reasons and I’ll get to all of them.

Hey everybody,

This is my first Entry, so I would like to keep it short and sweet. As you all know, with the loss last night at home against Green Bay the Seahawks are now a dismal 1-4. The schedule isn't getting any easier either. I understand the Hawks have had some bad luck with injuries in the receiving core and the recent knee problems of Matt Hasselbeck. It's vital to have a healthy Hasselbeck if the Seahawks are going to make a push for the playoffs. Even with a healthy quarterback and the return of two important targets in Egram and Branch the Hawks defense is going to need to tighten up and shut a team down.

NFC East

Week 6

Hello East Fans,

Well after a week of Hiatus to curse the football gods for my team’s embarrassing losses. I felt a preview of the Best division in Football was the only way to quench the thirst. Every team in the division except for Washington is on the road, let’s start with the leaders of the pack.

THE YEAR OF THE RUNNING BACK

In every NFL draft there is at least one position that is laden with talent. More often than not, this fresh crop of virtuosos wastes very little time in announcing its presence to the rest of the NFL. The hype swells over the course of training camp and preseason, but it all counts for nothing until the promise actually manifests itself on the playing field during the regular season. We’ve seen years (like the class of 2006) that were so diverse they defied designation. We’ve also had years (like the class of 2005) that were a little more singular in positional depth. This year, I believe, we can officially label as “The Year of the Running Back.”

My opinions on the Seahawks defensive coordinator has changed over the years. In 2005, his first year on the job, the Seahawks were all about simplicity, lots of young kids and solid veterans, the scheme was simple, a lot left over from the days of Ray Rhodes. Rhodes tampa two scheme was pure, for better or worse, there wasn't a lot of adjustments or attemps to trick the opposition. It was about discipline, gap control and quality tackling. Go back and watch those games, they were smart, not extremely talented, but very physical. After playing the Seahawks in 2005, Tiki Barber, having spent his life in the "Toughest division in the NFL", declared that it was the most physical game he'd ever played in. This coming from a guy who played the Eagles twice a year and went against the greatest defense of the last twenty years in the Super Bowl in 2000. Coincidentally the Seahawks took this solid defense and made its way to the Super Bowl. John Marshall's scheme in the NFC title game was nothing short of incredible, but, as I mentioned in my previous post, even the worst coaches have their moments.

The Crying Game

The Terrell Owens story

Hello NFL fans,

Well here we are, week four of the third year with his last team. This will be his last team, I truly believe that. If I were an owner I would rather get a letter full of anthrax and then imprisoned IN Cuba to spend the rest of my days. The continuous onslaught of reporters and fans condemning my name and wanting my head on a stick would be too much for me to bare.

Today the sports media is utterly baffled by USC's defeat at the hands of the Oregon State Beavers. This is surprising, no doubt, and the media is chalking it up to USC not being ready to play. They were ready, I think, but ready in a different way, I think the energy level was there, but they weren't ready for a battle. They were eager to go in, blow this team that can't even handle Stanford out and go back home. Oregon State parlayed the emotion of a desperate and hungry team into a 21 point lead. What people fail to realize is that in their own stadium, when they are ready and confident, Oregon State is very good. This has been the case for almost ten years. They play physical, and fast, and downhill. USC just got beat.

The days of Shaun Alexander bull dozing his way through defensive linemen are far behind these flightless hawks. With a rushing attack lead by Julius Jones and Maurice Morris it is tough to use the run to set up the pass. With a receiving core led by recent new comers, who have no chemistry with Matt Hasselbeck it will be tough to use the pass in any situation. The Hawks may not have been the favorite in the division with their top receivers and now they're without their top three.

The Seahawks have finally won a game, and it was an impressive one. The Hawks rushed for 245 yards against the division rival Rams and dominated for the majority of the game on the way to a 37-13 win at home. The Rams offense was constantly out of sinc, and the Hawks defense stopped the big plays from beating them.

Believe. Believe. It’s the one word in sports that says so much but says so little. You’ve seen signs in every NFL stadium at some point with this simple word. ”Believe.” When MLB baseball approaches the postseason every year, the word reappears. “Believe.” But believe in what I ask you? Do the Chicago Cubs “believe” that they will win a World Championship? Or do they “believe” that some strange twist of fate will ruin another promising season. What does your team “believe” in?

NFL Week 1 Predictions:

Redskins @ Giants: Giants

I am not real confident about this pick, but I had to do it. Even with Osi being out for the year, I still think the Giants pass rush will befuddle Jason Campbell. If the Skins had looked even average in the preseason, I would have been inclined to take them instead. Until I can trust Jim Zorn, I have to take the Giants here.

The running game: Last years problem, this years question. Can the Hawks regain the running prowess after cutting Shaun Alexander? Lets start with the halfbacks.

1. Julius Jones: Jones is just the type of runner that Alexander was not. Jones runs hard and is not afraid to take people head on. Problem with him is, that he is best used as a tandem back. Good News! The Seahawks have that tandem. Expect Julius to get 45% of the carries.

Here is the beginning to my Seahawks preview. I will be going through position by position and previewing the year each position will have. Today: QB. To the depth chart we go.

1. Matt Hasselbeck: Finally becoming a household name around the NFL, Hasselbeck had his best statistical season last year. He ranked 8th in the NFL in passing yards (3,996) and 6th in TD's (28). On an even better note, he had more then twice as many TD passes as INT's.

Here are my thoughts about the city of Seattle letting the Sonics leave

1. Seattle/Washington legislature are all idiots
If you are a Washington resident, I implore you to not re-elect our Governor (Christine Gregoire). If you live in Seattle, we need a new city council and Mayor. These people had a chance to keep the team here, twice! Yet, nothing was done. We need change if we are to ever get basketball back here again.
