Lofa

7 July 2008

Lofa changed his original plea of not guilty to guilty in Monday's court appearance for his May 10 DUI arrest. He will pay fines of $1,255 and spend a day in jail.

He handled this incident to the best of his ability, and because he cooperated and accepted responsibility for what he did, I think it shows even more good character traits about the guy. He screwed up, held himself totally accountable and didn't make any excuses.

Lofa's court date has tentatively been scheduled for July 7, well before the start of training camp.

His plea of not guilty hasn't changed, which I think is a risky move because his blood-alcohol content was already so far over the legal limit. The refusal of a breathalizer test at the time of being pulled over doesn't exactly help anything either, but the most important part is I'm just glad nobody was hurt.  It could've been a hell of a lot worse.

Amidst all of the mediocre offseason moves the Seahawks have made thus far, locking up Lofa Tatupu until 2015 with a contract extension last Friday has been by far the most intriguing. It took a bit of work with a few of the other players on the team having to work out some kinks in their contracts to prevent the extension of Tatupu from causing the Hawks to rise above the salary cap. The Hawks work as a team even in the off-season.

More good news for Hawk fans today -

Lofa Tatupu just signed a 6-year extension on his contract worth approximately $40 million total and $16 million in guarantees.

Another excellent move on Ruskell's part in keeping the locker room leaders at the core of the team.
