I'm not sure if the New York Knicks have all the pieces in place right now, but by adding Carmelo Anthony they are certainly one big step closer to being a NBA championship contender. Although considering the mismanagement over the last 10 years it's heard to believe they won't mess this up too.

Watch for the Knicks to make some strong stragetic moves during this off season to sure things up and make them a true Eastern conference powerhouse.

Two cities that produce NBA Eastern Conference contenders also have the two teams that are favored to win the Super Bowl as the NFL playoffs are set to begin this weekend.

NBA spread betting experts might recognize that Atlanta and Boston produce two East contenders and with the Falcons and Patriots, both cities have the Super Bowl XLV juggernauts as well.

Just as in the NBA’s East, Atlanta’s team is viewed with an eye of pessimism. The Falcons had a great regular season but don’t have a ton of playoff experience. They’re a young squad that is gaining it on the fly.

Meanwhile, Boston’s team - just like in the NBA – is experienced, savvy and has done it before. The Patriots are the odds-on favorites to do it all and considering they’ve won it three times this decade, why bet against them?

I really like the direction this team is going but I'm not so sure they can really be a contender in the East this year.  The East has gotten a lot stronger over the last few years and while I think they can make the playoffs I don't really see any chance that they can really beat The Magic, the Heat, the Celtics, of the Bulls.  And I'm skeptical they can even beat teams like the 76ers or the Hawks.

The MLB trade deadline came and went without the biggest name on the market being moved. Often times Mid-July festers numerous rumors within the Majors. The largest topic of discussion this year was Toronto ace Roy Halladay. Other notable players moved (most of them left Cleveland), but Halladay stayed.

The world series contenders before the deadline (Dodgers, Red Sox, Yankees, Cardinals, Phillies) made a few moves to further separate them from the teams chasing them, but neither one separated themselves from the pack of championship contenders they merely stayed with the pace at best. The game is played to win championships! So why did none of these teams pay the price for Roy Halladay and put themselves in a prime position to win.

Right Now either of these teams could win it all, but if you add Halladay to any of these rosters that team immediately becomes the favorite. Hey Yankees give up Joba the Hut and Phill Hughes and get a guy that is more than a strong arm. Hey Boston give them Clay and Bowden and whoever else they want. Hey LaRussa give Toronto Colby Rasmus and Adam Wainwright. If any of these deals had happened I would go ahead and give that team a 75% chance to win the World Series. Heck even a team that is chasing these guys could gain Halladay and contend for championship.

Unless you've managed to live amongst wolves for the past two years you undoubtedly know about Michael Vick's dog fighting ring. Michael has been out of professional football for two whole seasons and most of that time was spent in prison. Although, an average American cannot return to his or her job after being imprisoned; Michael Vick can and he will, because he is a professional football player.
The over used argument, "If this happened to me I wouldn't get a second chance." is ludicrous. If you, like Vick, have a job that only 1% of the population can do I bet you would be allowed back under some circumstances. Most of us; however, do not have this job and we are easily replaced. NFL players are basically celebrities. One cannot expect for the same rules to apply, so don't use that as an argument to keep Vick sidelined.

The Portland Trailblazers added free agent point guard Andre Miller to their roster this week, which undoubtedly makes them a better team. They now have Andre Miller and Steve Blake as their primary point guard as opposed to last season when they had Steve Blake and Sergio Rodriguez. The Blazers will definitely benefit from Miller's vocality and leadership both on and off the court and Greg Oden will appreciate his lob passes he loves to throw to his streaking posts.
This deal makes Brandon Roy happy, which is the number one goal in the Rose City. With that said this deal does not make much sense. Yes, the addition of Andre Miller makes Portland better, but it does not make them better than the Lakers, Spurs, or even the Nuggets. So it appears that Portland really isn't better in the standings. Houston will fall of next year and Portland will likely still be the four seed out west.

First off, I will say present ownership has been misguided in the past but I have great faith in Z and Wak and what they will do for this franchise and that is a move the present ownership made; to bring those 2 guys in. Squandered opportunities in the past or not, they make money and in doing so, keep this team in Seattle. As fans, we expect more, and rightfully so, but at least we have a team. 

As for the future, some see it as murky, but I am not one of them.  Trades, FA signings, and up and coming talent in the minors are going to bring a big change to the look of this team in the next couple of years.

At 2b, Lopez, although underachieving this year offensively, which makes his defense miscues more glaring, is an above average MLB player. Put a solid defensive SS next to him (AKA not Yuni) and you won't even notice Lopez's mistakes.

As OTA's and minicamps progress while training camp begin to roll over the horizon, America's favorite sport nears its regular season.  While nobody knows how well teams will do in a season with the randomness of injuries and several other factors, it's always interesting to look ahead at the schedule and prognosticate.  Unlike most people, I'm not going to give just a win or loss for each game, rather I'm going to predict how many times the Steelers would win if they played a team 10 times.  For instance if the Steelers were playing a very crappy team, I would say 9/10 or 10/10.  At the end i will add up the wins and divide by 10, giving us how many wins they will have this season.

Week 1 Titans at Steelers

A great season opener with two teams that have plenty of history as well as new found bad blood.  The Titans are coming off a very disappointing post-season last year after earning the best regular season record last year.  While the Titans should still be a good team, they are losing quite possibly the most dominating DT in the game, Albert Haynesworth.  Unfortunately when the Titans "stomped" the Steelers last season, Haynesworth didn't play either, so no real gain there.  The big question will be Kerry Collins, and I think his arm will just about fall off.  I'll give the Steelers 6/10.

During the 2008-2009 season, an encouraging pattern appeared.  The Steelers would start the game well, at some point fall behind, and in the 4th quarter, Big Ben would engineer a game winning drive.  This phenomena reared its head during the regular season, but in the biggest game of the year, Super Bowl XLIII.  Why is the leader of such a sub par offense (22nd in the league during the regular season) the engineer of so many come from behind wins? When examined, two major reasons can be found.

The biggest reason can be seen when you look at the common strategy of teams who have a lead late in the 4th quarter.  Teams always want to milk the clock by running the ball.  What do the steelers do best?  They stop the run. This gives Ben plenty of chances to have a game winning drive at the end of the quarter.  While having a chance is always nice, a clutch quarterback still needs to make the plays to win the game.  So why did the 17th ranked passing offense always seem to come through?  Ben's mastery of the no-huddle offense.
