It has finally happened...Brett Farve is actually retiring. The most durable quarterback in history will not be strapping up his helmet next fall.
This retirement comes after days of speculation by the Packers organization about an answer that never came until days in to free agency. He has reportedly told multiple sources that he is retiring.
This retirement has to do with one thing: talent surrounding Farve. The fact that the packers wouldn't give up a 4th round pick last year to pick up the "washed up" Randy Moss was almost enough to make him retire, and the fact that they didn't spend the big bucks to get him again probably threw him over the edge.
I understand he has some pretty good, young weapons in Green Bay now. Greg Jennings was a steal in the draft and proves to be a legitimate play maker. James Jones was also a steal and will continue to get better. Donald Lee at Tight End can run the seams and get open better than the ever-so-slow Bubba Franks. Don't even get me started on the overated Donald Driver.
Even though Farve has retired, don't be so sure that he will never return. This football maniac has had football in his life for over 30 years. One year without it will show him how much he loved it and how much a part of his life it was.
Many teams in 2009 will need a veteran quarterback....so don't think you won't see him in another teams helmet.
